Racing Charge for Kincardine Man

Kincardine | by Matt Hermiz

OPP say 72-year-old driver drove wrong way through roundabout, sped at more than double posted limit

A 72-year-old Kincardine man faces a street racing charge after police say he was clocked driving more than double the speed limit in Mapleton Township.

OPP say an officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7 at Wellington Road 109 on Monday just before midnight, when he observed a sedan enter a newly installed roundabout and make a sharp left turn the wrong way.

Police say the roundabout was clearly marked with arrows and signs directing traffic to the right.

OPP say the vehicle exited the roundabout at a high rate of speed and was clocked driving over 165 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

The 72-year-old man is charged with Race a Motor Vehicle and Drive Wrong way under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police say the man's driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days.
