The trial of former South Bruce Peninsula councillor Craig Gammie resumes in an Owen Sound court today.
Gammie allegedly assaulted Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland on Sept. 5, 2017 outside the clerk's office at South Bruce Peninsula Town Hall.
Both the crown and defence offered different versions of events when the trial began in August.
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson and Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland both testified Gammie pushed Kirkland in the back twice, causing the deputy mayor's face to hit the door to the clerk's office.
Jackson was the only witness to the alleged assault.
Gammie testified he did not push Kirkland.
The 68-year-old Gammie had his South Bruce Peninsula council seat vacated last December due to bail conditions stemming from the assault charge.
