Upgrades to the Sykes Street bridge in Meaford is going ahead.
But Council made some changes to the original motion passed at Committee of the Whole.
The bridge is located on the main street (Highway 26) south of Trowbridge Street near the proposed new Meaford Library.
The decorative lights that was first proposed was removed but the stamping on the inner part of the bridge remains.
Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney says she was disappointed that Council decided to keep the existing cobra lights on the bridge instead of the decorative ones.
But she says that is the wish of Council and she will move on from it.
The Municipality received a grant of $875,300 that represented 90 percent of the cost ($917,000) of the bridge improvements.
But Keaveney says the cost of the bridge is now about $400,000 more than originally estimated.
She says things have changed since then and Council needs to be careful in using taxpayers' dollars wisely.
