The Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) has a new Board Chair in Mary Jo Arnett.
Arnett has been affiliated with the Foundation for five years and Chaired its Gift Committee while also taking roles on the Finance and Governance Committees.
She says she has two major goals for her first year as Chair; which include increasing donors to sustain future Hospital needs.
"We’ve got a lot of new people coming to the area so I think that’s a real opportunity for us, and I'm also hoping we appeal to a younger demographic," says Arnett.
She also believes there is a need to think of innovative fundraising ideas.
While they're making strides in innovated fundraising ideas Arnett says there are still some challenges ahead of them which will always be the ever increasing needs for funds.
"That's just never going to go away," she says.
This year the Foundation began the Saugeen Shores Health Care Lottery and is currently working on a calendar fundraiser. In 2018 the Hospital Foundation held its first ever Gran Fondo Fundraiser.
Earlier this spring the SMHF publicly vied for a Ct Scanner.
"If we do get approval we will have to raise funds for that and that’s going to be somewhere over $2 million dollars."
She says she’s quite sure "Saugeen Shores will rise to that opportunity".
As of right now no Foundation Board member has moved into the Vice-Chair role vacated by Arnett.
Former Chair Jim Barbour moved into the Past-Chair position. Arnett thanks Barbour for his "cool, calm leadership" and also thanked former Chair Jonna Ebel for her guidance.
