Saugeen Shores councillors have a new tourism strategy report in their hands.
As you might expect, the report by Mellor Murray Consulting, presented to Committee of the Whole on Monday, October 28th, stated that tourism in the municipality is important for revenue and for future development.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says "With this strategy as our guide, we can better invest in innovative and effective tourism offerings while ensuring sustainability and responsible growth in our region."
However, the mayor says patience will be the watchword
He says it's not something that's going to be instituted immediately pointing out it's going to take time to implement in a thoughtful way.
Saugeen Shores Manager of Strategic Services Jessica Linthorne says she can see tourism being an important part of economic development as suggested in the report.
She says, "When we speak to developers or investors or potential newcomers to our community, we talk about the quality of life and things to do in Saugeen Shores."
The report has 6 goals including extending the tourist season outside of the summer months, having quality accommodation for visitors and creating a strategic marketing campaign targeting key visitor segments.
The report will be in the hands of Council in a couple of weeks for further discussion.
