The holiday season is fast approaching and today Owen Sound will see its first event in the festivities.
The 74th annual Santa Claus Parade is happening at 10am in downtown Owen Sound.
The parade will feature floats and marching groups from local businesses and organizations.
According to a release put out by the Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound, this year's theme is A Musical Christmas.
The release also says 60% of last year's participants will be returning along side new registrants.
The Kiwanis Club encourages children to bring letters for Santa.
They hope this year will be bigger than previous years.
The parade route will be the same as previous years running along 2nd Ave East down and then turning up 8th St East to end along 3rd Ave East.
With the 10th Street Bridge being closed and traffic through Owen Sound funnelled along 8th and 9th St, the parade will block traffic for a period of time.
Andy Drury of the Kiwanis Club says the closures will work out just fine, "It's 10am on a Saturday so the usual weekday traffic isn't out and about," Drury says "we wait till the last possible moment to close the roads and as soon as Santa passes we reopen them."
Both 8th and 9th Street East were closed at the 2nd Ave East intersection as early as 8am Saturday morning.
2nd Ave East is closed from 7th St East to the Bayshore Community Centre
Volunteers will be collecting canned foods for the food bank.
Parade viewers are also encouraged to take and share photos on social media to be entered to win a prize.
Photos from past parades will also count according to Drury.
The parade begins at 10am and is expected to run about an hour.
