Candidate Concerned Over Hospital Overcrowding

Grey Bruce | by Kevin Bernard

NDP Candidate Karen Gventer says the hospital crisis is all too familiar in Grey Bruce.

The Ontario NDP Candidate for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, Karen Gventer is criticizing the Liberal government of Kathleen Wynne over the issue of overcrowding and hallway medicine at seven regional hospitals.

Gventer says  the hospital crisis is all too familiar to families in Grey Bruce.

She adds for more than a year, Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath has been calling on Kathleen Wynne to fix the problem of hospital gridlock, adding health care needs to be a priority for Ontario’s leaders.

Gventer says families in Hanover, Owen Sound, Wiarton, Meaford, Markdale, Southampton and Lion's Head, have been faced with temporary beds in the ER hallway, or in rooms not equipped for patient care.
Flu season has magnified the problem in an already-badly overcrowded system that is bottlenecked by patients being forced to wait in hospital for a long-term care bed.

Gventer says we can't keep switching between cuts and budget freezes and expect that things will get better in the health care system.

Ontario residents go to the polls on June 7th to elect a new government.
