Provincial Police will resume their search Saturday of a heavily wooded area west of Owen Sound for a 27-year-old man who went missing two days ago.
Grey Bruce OPP Const. Nigel Heels confirms police officers, the canine unit and members of the West Region Emergency Response Team spent Friday searching the grounds of West Rock Management Area.
Joshua Thompson was last seen leaving his residence on 4th Avenue East around 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning. His van was later located at the West Rocks Management Area on Concession 3 in Georgian Bluffs, where police have focused their search since.
The entire West Rocks property is about 222 acres, according to information published online by Grey County.
The OPP helicopter was involved Thursday, continuously scanning the west side escarpment in Owen Sound.
Heels says the helicopter was not part of Friday’s search, mainly because its effectiveness to observe from above was limited due to the heavy tree coverage.
OPP are still asking people to avoid the area as police continue their search.
Heels notes the OPP search will resume Saturday morning.
Police describe Thompson as about 5-foot-10 tall with a slim build. In an update posted to OPP social media on Friday, police say he was seen wearing grey shorts, a dark long-sleeve shirt and work boots.
Anyone who has information that can assist in locating Thompson is asked to call 1-888-310-1122.
