There’s a new townhouse development that’s proceeding in northwest Port Elgin and plans are being made to develop 22 secondary units within that project.
At its May 10th council meeting, councillors approved bylaws for Phase 7 and Phase 8 of Lord Elgin Estates plan which is being turned over deverloper Dale Walden.
Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt wanted to thank Walden of Walden Developments for the inclusion of 22 secondary units in a development that will have 50-to-60 units overall.
Myatt says he believes such a build is a first for Saugeen Shores and as chair of the Attainable Housing Task Force, he’s thrilled that the secondary units will be on the market.
He calls it “a really good news story for the community.”
Mayor Luke Charbonneau concurs indicating that the result came about after merely asking the developer if he would be interested in providing the secondary units although Charbonneau thinks the plan was already in the developer’s mind.
The mayor says what it shows to him is that the development community “is really keen to move forward with affordable housing.”
Charbonneau says he looks forward to seeing them built and getting people in them.
