The Bluewater District School Board says it will lower its flags to half-mast to honour the London, Ontario Muslim family of four, killed in what police say was a hate motivated crime.
The Bluewater Board says on Twitter, “We are deeply saddened by the news out of London, ON where an Islamophobic act of hate resulted in the senseless and tragic loss of a family. BWDSB mourns with all those impacted, and stands with the Muslim community in condemning all forms of hate, discrimination, and violence.”
It goes on to say, “National flags are being lowered at all BWDSB schools and work sites to honour the victims of the Islamophobic act of hate that killed four members of a family in London, ON earlier this week.”
The flags will be at half-mast until sunset today (June 9th).
Flags had also been lowered for nine days from May 31st to June 8th in observance of the recent discovery of 215 unmarked graves of indigenous children at a residential school in Kamloops, B.C.
