About 140 people held a climate change rally in downtown Owen Sound Wednesday afternoon.
The demonstrators walked down 2nd Avenue East at about 4:30 p.m. holding signs that say ‘Climate emergency – act like it,’ and ‘Build soil, not pipelines.”
Co-Organizer Doug Miller says the rally was non-partisan explaining, “Canada has made an international commitment to meet UN goals. We want every party to commit to either meet or exceed those commitments that Canada has solemnly made.”
He says, “There’s been lots of talk about 2050 and coming to ‘net-zero’ and these things but what we’ve learned about exponential trends with COVID is that that the earlier we get to things, the better.”
Organizers says group members are making a point to meet with all local federal election candidates to share their concerns and will update the community on how that went at soundthealarmos.ca
