Home & Community Support Services Grey-Bruce say they have received a $93,000 grant from the James Goreski Private Foundation.
HCSS say this grant will help them out with the revitalization of the Adult Day Away programs across the region.
The Revitalizing Adult Day Away project seeks to equip six program locations across both Grey and Bruce counties with updated equipment and furnishings needed to provide a comfortable and engaging space for participants as the program rebounds from the effects of Covid.
The grant will help with the purchasing of electric lift chairs, air quality monitors and heppa air filtration equipment, commercial dishwashers, and activity equipment such as iPads, mobile smart televisions, and mobile whiteboards.
HCSS Executive Director Stephen Musehl says they are grateful for the generous support from the foundation and since the HCSS only receives partial funding from the government for operational costs, they rely heavily on support from grants and community donations for such things, as well as furnishings and equipment.
“Our reclining chairs needing to be replaced are in very rough condition due to their age and not being made of materials intended for strict pandemic cleaning protocols. The introduction of the heppa air purifiers will improve the air quality in each location and this improves the health and well being of clients and staff in these spaces. These improvements to our six spaces will impact so many area seniors and adults living with disabilities all across Grey and Bruce counties. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful locally focused foundation in our area,” says Musehl.
The Adult Day Away Program in Owen Sound, Meaford, Markdale, Port Elgin, Hanover, and Wiarton provides socialization and recreation in a medically monitored environment. The program offers a variety of activities like games, music, exercise, crafts, and a chance to visit one another.
Transportation and locally prepared meals are also available for participants.
