The Prime Minister has made a big announcement today.
Justin Trudeau has confirmed that Canada’s minority Liberal government has reached a tentative agreement with the NDP, effective from today through to the end of the current Parliament in 2025.
The deal is what is known as a ‘confidence and supply’ agreement, and not a formal coalition.
“With so much instability around us, Canadians need stability,” said Trudeau. “Both parties have identified key policy areas where we share similar objectives. And we’ve agreed to work together to put the needs and interests of Canadians first.”
The PM explained that both parties have identified similar objectives to put the needs to Canadians first and said the agreement is not about compromising the core beliefs of the parties or their differences.
Trudeau says both the NDP and Liberals will continue to disagree on certain things.
Trudeau also said his party is willing to work with anyone who wants to put their differences aside for the benefit of the country.
