The Owen Sound Salvation Army Thrift Store is receiving tens of thousands of dollars worth of sporting goods from a local store which recently closed its doors.
The Salvation Army says they received the remainder of Garb and Gear’s apparel and equipment inventory following its closure in the spring when owners Brian and Janice Warrilow announced their retirement.
Janice says, “I’m aware of the good The Salvation Army does in the community, and we were looking for a not-for-profit that would be able to use the donation to benefit of the community and generate funding for programs.”
The Salvation Army says all of the proceeds from the sale of the items will go to the Thrift Store, which will fund programs like sending kids to summer camps and Community and Family Services which operates the food bank.
The sports apparel will also be donated to children’s outreach sports programs. The Salvation Army says the donated items include a large amount of apparel covering all seasons, coats, licensed jerseys and hats, shoes, boots, golf equipment, skates, swim wear, and other sporting goods.
Salvation Army Lieutenant Jory Hewson says, “we are so humbled by the generosity of the couple that even in their retirement continue to want to give back to the community and graciously approached us to make that a reality.”
