Schools across Bruce and Grey counties will be closed on Monday if Canadian Union of Public Employees education workers proceed with their strike.
The Bluewater District School Board and the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board sent out notices saying their schools will be closed on Nov. 21 and shift to remote learning unless an agreement is reached between the Progressive Conservative government and the union.
The french Catholic school in Owen Sound, Ecole Catholique Saint-Dominique-Savio, would also be closed Monday and offer remote learning.
Remote learning wouldn’t start in the Bluewater Board until Tuesday.
“We realize that some families would require a device to access online learning. We only have the capacity to loan up to one device per family where necessary. Staff would collect information with a plan to distribute technology to families requiring this support by the middle of next week,” Bluewater Director of Education Lori Wilder says in a letter to parents.
CUPE workers in the Bluewater District School Board include custodial and maintenance staff. The public board did not close during the previous two-day walkout by CUPE members earlier this month.
Media reports say the provincial government and union will return to the bargaining table this weekend to try to reach a deal.
