Saugeen Ojibway Nation youth programs are receiving a $75,000 donation from Bruce Power’s supplier partners.
Bruce Power says its Supplier Sponsorship Program is continuing its support of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Youth Leaders in Training Program by donating $50,000, and giving $25,000 to Bear’s Lair TV Youth Dream Camps.
The training program helps those between the ages of 14 and 25 develop leadership skills like self-confidence, effective communication, creative planning, and how to facilitate workshops and events. Additionally, it also invites participates to embrace traditional Indigenous knowledge and culture, while encouraging engagement in activities and excursions.
The Bear’s Lair camps gives those ages 12 to 18 the chance to explore small business and entrepreneurship.
Chair of the Indigenous Relations Supplier Network Marsha Roote says, “the education and mentorship this program provides are crucial to the development of our future leaders of Saugeen First Nation and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, and we’re thankful to our supplier partners for their donation.”
Chief of Saugeen First Nation Conrad Ritchie adds the program provides a chance for young people to hone their skills and further their community involvement.
“The program serves the youth in our community well as a stepping stone toward their future education and career opportunities,” says Ritchie.
Chief of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Veronica Smith says, “this leadership program has been offered for a number of years and we’re excited to see it continue and thrive.”
Bruce Power says 40 suppliers supported the program in 2022, donating $620,000 to these initiatives.
