The Inter Township Fire Department is receiving a portion of a $250,000 donation from Enbridge Gas to support firefighter training.
A release from Georgian Bluffs says this annual donation will help the fire department purchase firefighting training materials to assist in life-saving techniques.
The donation was given through the Safe Community Project Assist, a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety council which helps supplement existing training in communities where Enbridge Gas operates.
The $250,000 donation is being split amongst 50 Ontario fire departments, including the Inter Township Fire Department which services Georgian Bluffs and Meaford.
Southeast Region Owen Sound Supervisor of Operations at Enbridge Gas Jacquelyn Scott says, “at Enbridge Gas, safety is our priority. We’re proud to support Ontario firefighters who share our commitment to keeping our communities safe, healthy and vibrant.”
The release adds since the launch of the program in 2012, 294 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.
Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the program Jon Pegg says the Safe Community Project Assist improves access to training materials for fire departments.
“Firefighting can be dangerous and unpredictable, and these training materials positively contribute to the health and safety of firefighters and the broader community,” says Pegg.
Inter Township Fire Department Chief Jeff Gautreau adds their team of firefighters rely on regular training to save lives and maintain their skills in everything from ice rescues, to confined spaces, to hazardous materials.
“This training is essential in keeping our firefighters and community safe, and we are very grateful for this support,” says Gautreau.
