A Georgian Bluffs man has been recognized with a provincial award for his dedication to community service.
Robert Knapp has been honoured with an Ontario Senior of the Year award, a recognition given out annually to someone in each municipality in the province who enriches the social, cultural and civic life of the community.
Knapp has been a trail captain for the Bruce Trail in Georgian Bluffs for over 30 years, and was instrumental in establishing the Rail Trail in Sarawak. According to the township, he also volunteers as a blacksmith at Moreston Village at Grey Roots Museum, and spent 15 years as part of the Big Brothers program.
He was Georgian Bluffs’ Senior of the Year in 2022, and council subsequently nominated him for the provincial recognition program.
Georgian Bluffs Mayor Sue Carleton says the award serves as a token of appreciation for Knapp’s hard work, and acknowledges his tireless commitment to making the community a better place for all.
“Mr. Knapp is one of those residents that gives so much more back to the township,” says Georgian Bluffs Mayor Sue Carleton. “We really appreciate residents like him that give back, not just to our community in Georgian Bluffs, but to the surrounding area as well.”
The township says a brief ceremony recognizing Knapp and celebrating the award is being organized for later in June.
