Kincardine Council is supporting another municipality’s declaration of intimate partner violence as an epidemic.
The motion was put to council after the Municipality of Kincardine received correspondence from Prince Edward County.
Councillor Jennifer Prenger brought the issue forward, saying that since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, instances of intimate partner violence have become more prevalent.
“Family violence, in general, has gone up every year since 2019, and every six days, a woman is killed by her partner in Canada.”
Kincardine Council supported the motion, with further information expected to be presented in the chamber at a later date.
