Grey Bruce OPP have laid charges against a South Bruce Peninsula resident after an incident in Wiarton on Tuesday.
OPP did not describe the initial reason for the call, but say officers arrived on scene and met with an individual who was arrested without incident and transported to a local hospital.
According to police, while at the hospital, the person became combative and started grabbing the officer’s firearm.
As a result of the struggle, a shot was fired.
There were no injuries reported.
Police did not name the accused, but say a 24-year-old from South Bruce Peninsula is being charged with disarming a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.
OPP say the accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
