The Festival of Northern Lights returns this year with a light-up ceremony this weekend.
Festival Chair Jamie Walpole says that spectators can enjoy some new displays this year among long-time favourites.
“There are a few new displays this year. We have one which we’re very excited about called The Vortex,” says Walpole. “What it is, is a walk-through tunnel consisting of over 2,500 individually-controlled pixel lights.”
There will be a dance groove with Tyler Boyle, and music from Parsons and Brown for everyone to enjoy while seeing the lights.
Volunteers work throughout the year creating new displays and getting things ready for the seven-week event.
Walpole says “Starting at about 6:10, we have Tyler Boyle leading a dance groove where everyone is encouraged to get up and get moving. There will be a bit of a chill in the air, so it’ll get you a little bit warm.”
There will also be photos with Santa, hot chocolate, and cookies.
The light-up ceremony is scheduled to happen right after the Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade and will run until January 7, 2024, from 5-10 p.m. each night at Harrison Park.
