A local business is aiming to collect donations following a duplex fire in Chatsworth.
Owner of Moore’s Meats Cori Moore says they are using their enclosed trailer and truck to collect donations for the residents of the duplex this Saturday morning at the Chatsworth Legion from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
No one was injured in the early Monday morning blaze on Crawford Street. Five people were inside the two units.
“This fire, we could actually see it from our front window so clearly. It’s a community desire for us to help out. If you are not helping the people in your own backyard, in your own front yard, then there is no reason being a local business,” says Moore.
Moore says they aim to collect clothing and toiletries for both of the affected families, one of which had two young children.
“I think now that the fire has just happened, too much is going to be a little overwhelming for them. So if we can even just get them the basic needs so they are not scrambling for their day-to-day, that’s our main focus,” says Moore.
A couple of online fundraisers have also been set up to help the two families. They can be found here and here.
