The new Rockwood Terrace Long-Term Care Home is anticipated to start taking in residents in early 2027.
The Grey County Long-Term Care Redevelopment Planning Task Force received an update on the redevelopment project from Colliers Project Leaders Senior Project Manager Andrew Rodrigues during a meeting on July 25.
This comes after construction began on the new 128-bed Durham facility in late June.
“Right now we are seeing construction extend out until the end of 2026, with the first resident date forecasted in the first quarter of 2027,” says Rodrigues.
He says while they do not have an exact date for when people will move in, they will have a more solid idea once the Ministry of Long-Term Care conducts inspections for any deficiencies at the new site.
Grey County Warden Brian Milne asked since the county is the owner of the facility, if it will get to conduct an inspection as well.
“Well before the ministry coming in, there is a typical process where the design team goes through room by room and identifies deficiencies whether it is some paint missing or a scratch in the flooring,” says Rodrigues. “We strongly encourage owners to be involved and integrated as part of that process.”
He says any deficiencies noted by county staff will go to the contractor to be addressed.
