A Bridgerton inspired fundraising concert in support of the Georgian Bay Symphony is set to go Saturday in Owen Sound.
The Thomas Beard and Friends String Quartet will be playing some modern hits in the classical style, including songs by Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Billie Eilish, Madonna, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Sia, Pink and other artists.
Bridgerton is a regency era romance novel series, turned hit Netflix show that is set in the 1800s. The TV show puts a fresh twist on the music of the period by playing classical versions of today’s hit songs while the characters attend high society balls and the biggest parties of the season.
Georgian Bay Symphony Business Manager David Adair says, “That was the inspiration behind the concert,” noting the Thomas Beard Quartet played a similar show in Kincardine last summer. “It was a huge success, so they put together a traveling show and they were able to get them to come here,” says Adair.
He notes Thomas Beard, who grew up in the area and used to play with the Georgian Bay Symphony now works as a professional cellist in Montreal.
Funds raised through ticket sales will go to the operation of the Georgian Bay Symphony including purchasing the music, renting venues for performances, paying guest artists and more.
Some tickets are still available. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Harmony Centre.
