The 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce is supporting Victim Services Bruce Grey with a $33,200 donation.
Victim Services Executive Director Jane Hartley says the donation was made at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre last week.
“Victim Services was approached by a member of the 100 Women Who Care committee and offered to do a presentation to the group, regarding Victim Services and the programs and services we offer to the committee,” says Hartley. “We were fortunately selected as the recipient of the donations that were gathered for this round of granting.”
The 100 Women Who Care is a grassroots group which meets a few times a year, where each member contributes $100 and votes to select one of three local charities. The charity receiving the most votes is awarded the full donation. Hartley says this donation was the largest the group has ever made.
Hartley says the donated funds are incredibly important as they will go to support direct services and front line support to victims.
“Things like helping to provide transportation, to help get a victim to and from an appointment, and helping to off set some of the costs and the immediate impacts that have on people’s lives. So making sure they have access to the immediate services and resources to help them bridge to moving to a place of recovery and recuperating after a traumatic incident has happened in their lives,” says Hartley.
She adds they are very fortunate to have been selected to receive the funding as they are government funded.
“We rely upon funds and donations from the generosity of community and organizations to help off set some of those immediate needs and financial challenges that people experience. All the donations that we receive go directly to support victims,” says Hartley.
