The Owen Sound Police Service has a new Deputy Police Chief.
Dave Bishop who most recently held the rank of inspector with the service, has officially assumed the role as of Monday.
Bishop began his policing career with the Waterloo Regional Police Service in 1986 and has had assignments in patrol operations, the tactical unit, as a detective in general investigations and in covert investigations in the drug unit. He was also the access to information coordinator and had seven years of experience in the professional standards, public complaints and internal affairs fields. In 1997, he was selected to serve as a human rights and war crimes investigator with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Bishop joined the Owen Sound Police Service as an Inspector in 2019, and in 2025 was awarded the Member of Order Merit that recognizes the outstanding, long-term service of Canadian police officers and is presented by the Governor General of Canada.
He brings nearly 39 years of experience to the role.
Board Chair John Thomson says back before 2007, the Owen Sound Police Service had a deputy police chief. Since then, the service has been operating with two Inspectors. In April 2024, the new Community Safety and Policing Act was which had additional reporting requirements and obligations, necessitating the reinstatement of a deputy police chief position.
