Communities in Grey Bruce are offering their condolences to the community of Tumbler Ridge.
Flags in Meaford, Owen Sound, Hanover and South Bruce Peninsula are at half mast in a gesture of solidarity and remembrance.
Nine people were killed and 25 injured Tuesday in a mass shooting in a number of locations in the small, Northern BC town, including the high school.
RCMP say the suspect, 18 year old Jesse Van Rootselaar died from a self-inflicted wound.
Meaford Mayor Ross Kentner says in a statement “Our hearts are with the community of Tumbler Ridge, B.C. during this incredibly difficult time. We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic events that have impacted their community, and we join people across the country in mourning this profound loss.”
As a gesture of solidarity and remembrance, flags in Meaford are lowered to half‑mast.
Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy says in a statement, “On behalf of Owen Sound residents, I offer my deepest condolences to all those impacted by this horrific act of violence. Our thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones, those who are injured and healing, and the whole community of Tumbler Ridge during this incredibly difficult time.”
The Town of Hanover says in a statement, “We share our sincere thoughts of care, strength, and healing with all those affected and with the entire community during this incredibly difficult time. To honour the victims of the tragic mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, the Town of Hanover will be flying the municipal flag at half‑mast at both the Civic Centre and the P&H Centre.”
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula, “Extends our heartfelt condolences to everyone impacted by the tragic events in the community of Tumbler Ridge, B.C.
Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and the entire community during this incredibly difficult time. In solidarity and support of those affected by these devastating events, flags at Town facilities will be flown at half-mast for seven days.”
