Owen Sound Police say an alleged “porch pirate” has been arrested and charged.
Police say a local man was notified of the successful delivery of a package last week that he’d ordered online, but returned home to find nothing on the doorstep. The value of the stolen item was about $350.
The victim began to search various online marketplace websites and managed to locate his item posted for sale shortly after the theft occurred.
He notified Owen Sound Police, which launched an investigation.
Police say an officer then posed as an “interested buyer” and contacted the alleged offender on Sunday to make arrangements to meet up in a downtown Owen Sound location for a purchase.
A 36-year-old Owen Sound man showed up, and was arrested by police.
The accused was charged with theft, trafficking in stolen and possession of stolen goods for the purpose of trafficking.
