Meaford council is looking at purchasing a new $1.7 million ladder truck for the local fire department.
Council will be receiving a report on June 12 from Director of Financial Services and Treasurer Valerie Manning. It recommends awarding a request for proposal to purchase the new truck from Rosenbauer City View.
The report says this new 109 foot ladder truck would replace the existing 75 foot truck purchased in 2020.
“The ladder truck responds to all working fires within the municipality, and it is critical that the department has an apparatus that it can depend on for all members of the public, not just properties in the downtown core. The new vehicle will be a critical front-line vehicle that will go to all working fires, alarms calls, rescues, car accidents, and responds to the military base as a critical apparatus,” says the report.
The report says the 2023 tax-support capital budget includes $1.6 million for the purchase of the new truck, and to cover the shortfall, it is recommended to fund it through additional internal debt.
Should council approve the purchase, the delivery of the truck is estimated to arrive in December 2024.
Council will be considering this item during it meeting on June 12 at 1 p.m.
