One person has died in a residential fire in Kincardine.
A release from the municipality says, on Friday, November 24th, firefighters from Tiverton and Kincardine responded to a single family home on fire on Whippoorwill Lane.
Deputy Fire Chief Ron Simmons says, “The investigation is ongoing. At this time, I would like to extend condolences to the family and friends of the victim on behalf of the Municipality of Kincardine’s fire and emergency services.”
The municipality says initial reports indicated there was fire visible within the structure and that someone was inside and the first teams on scene activated Mutual Aid resulting in four fire stations from three municipalities involved in response efforts.
They say, “Heavy smoke and fire prevented initial entry efforts. Crews made a concerted effort to knock down the fire allowing access to the structure and a subsequent search of the premises. As a result, responders located one occupant of the single-family home deceased.”
The victim’s identity is being withheld until notification of family.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is to be determined. The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and circumstances.
Deputy Chief Simmons also thanked the first responders for their efforts on the scene.
