The Attack’s six-game point streak is over.
Noah Morneau scored twice and added an assist to help the Windsor Spitfires to a 7-4 win over the Attack in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night at the WFCU Centre.
Jack Nesbitt, Anthony Cristoforo, AJ Spellacy, Ryan Abraham and Colton Smith also scored for Windsor (16-29-3-2).
Colby Barlow scored a pair for Owen Sound (24-21-4-2). Ethan Burroughs and Cedrick Guindon added singles.
The Attack have now dropped three of their last four games.
Windsor led 2-0 after the first period, before the Attack stormed back with three in the second to take a 3-2 lead.
But then with just over five minutes to go in the second, the Spitfires answered with two quick ones to retake the lead. Morneau and Cristoforo scored 37 seconds apart.
Spellacy was awarded a penalty shot with 6:27 to go in the third and converted to make it 5-3.
Barlow then blasted a one-time shot past Joey Costanzo on the power play with 4:43 remaining to bring the Attack within one.
Owen Sound then had another power play chance after that, trailing 5-4, but couldn’t find the tying goal.
Abraham would score an empty-netter, before Smith added one in the final minute at even strength.
Costanzo made 29 saves in the win, while Corbin Votary stopped 24 taking the loss. The Attack outshot the Spitfires 33-31 while going 1 for 2 on the power play; Windsor finished 1 for 2 as well.
Sam Sedley was held off the scoresheet. He remains one point away from setting the Owen Sound franchise record for most career points by a defenceman.
Next up for Owen Sound is a home game against the Oshawa Generals (26-18-4-2) Tuesday at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
HOOKEY, CORMIER OUT
Landen Hookey and Ben Cormier didn’t dress for the Attack in Windsor. Hookey is serving an automatic two-game suspension, after his fourth fight of the season in Saginaw on Friday. He’ll be out Tuesday against Oshawa as well.
Cormier suffered an upper-body injury on a hit he took in Saginaw Friday night. He’s day-to-day for now.
