The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is partnering with the Grey Roots Museum and Archives for the annual Multicultural Day this weekend.
Set for this Saturday at the museum in Owen Sound from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Manager of Grey Bruce Settlement and Language Services Suneet Kukreja says the event honours the multiculturalism in the region.
“We try to celebrate the diversity in our rural communities each year, so this would be the fourth year that we are hosting the Multicultural Day celebration. It is an opportunity when individuals from different cultures and communities come together in one place and celebrate their cultures,” says Kukreja.
She says a number of activities are planned for the event including a steel pan band and other musical guests, a cultural fashion show, a special Greek community presentation, kids games, and more.
Kukreja says over the past few years the YMCA has hosted the event in the region, it has seen a steady increase in attendees and participants, and are hoping for at least 100 people to show up this year.
“I think events like this gives the local community a chance to see the diversity in rural communities. It gives them a chance to speak to people from other different countries,” says Kukreja.
The event will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with opening remarks.
