There will be bumps in Ontario’s vaccine rollout and the leader of the Province’s vaccine task force today asked for patience when they occur.
General Rick Hillier said the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine will arrive at Toronto University Health Network and the Ottawa Hospital on Tuesday.
1,500 healthcare workers at each site will be vaccinated. Doses for their second inoculation 21 days later will also be saved.
But looking to the future, Hillier expects some bumps and he asked for patience when they happen.
“There are going to be some bumps in the road,” he said. “Please be patient with us. We are going to work through those bumps and the one thing that we will guarantee you is that we will be better on the other side of the bump at delivering that efficient and equitable program than we are on this side of the bump.”
Potential bumps could include isolated allergic reactions to the vaccine. Earlier this week Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged to create Federal Support Program around vaccine safety for all Canadians to cover this potential.
In the meantime, Hillier says 90,000 more doses of the vaccine will arrive in Ontario by end of December and the focus will then be on vaccinating healthcare workers at 14 other hospitals across Ontario.
