Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest is set to go this weekend, October 5th and 6th.
It’s a celebration of giant pumpkins, and the biggest and best of other vegetables and plants including tomatoes, watermelons and sunflowers.
Pumpkinfest Marketing Director Anne Marie Collins says, “We’re always excited about our big pumpkins coming in for Pumpkinfest and we’ve actually heard that we might break the 2,000lb plus barrier this year, so that’s really exciting.”
Pumpkinfest starts with a concert Friday night, featuring the Road Hammers.
There’s also a midway, packed with rides and games.
Saturday and Sunday there will also be food and craft vendors, and a master giant pumpkin carver.
54-40 is playing on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Gustavus and Bricker Streets. It’s a licensed, ticketed event and will be held rain or shine.
The OLG Cinderella’s Carriage Classic Car show is Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th.
The Bruce Power International Weigh Off will be held both Saturday and Sunday in two events.
Last Year’s big winner was John Butler from St. Thomas with a 1956.50 lb pumpkin.
