Members from the Grey Bruce Health Coalition are visiting the Ontario Legislature today to address local healthcare concerns.
Coalition Co-Chair Brenda Scott says a small group from the region will be joining the Ontario Health Coalition as a delegation to speak about the hospitals in Chesley and Durham.
“We want to bring the message forward one way or another to the Minister of Health to say we want full time ER services in Chesley and Durham, and in particular Durham would like their 10 in-patient beds back that were moved out last April,” says Scott.
She adds they would also like to see more communication with local communities when decisions are made regarding local healthcare.
“There should be an opportunity for people in that community to have input,” says Scott.
While at the legislature, they will participate in question period, meet with MPP’s and take part in a press conference at Queen’s Park.
This is not the first time the coalition has visited Queen’s Park to draw attention to local healthcare, a group visited the legislature in May last year.
“We are still in the same situation,” says Scott. “We are hoping that we will get to reach some of the new MPP’s and perhaps get some action forward on our issues. We always come down hopeful and if we don’t get everything we want at a particular time, we are going to come again.”
She adds they have other days of actions planned for July and September.
