Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed the Canada-US border will remain closed until February 21st.
The current closure restrictions aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 had been set to expire on January 21st.
“This is an important decision and one that will keep people on both sides of the border safe,” said the Prime Minister in his briefing today.
The border between the two countries has been closed for non-essential travel since March.
It means tourist and cross-border visits aren’t allowed except for some on compassionate grounds as long as they follow mandatory quarantine rules in either the States or Canada upon arrival.
Trade and commerce travel is still being allowed.
We are extending restrictions on non-essential travel with the United States until February 21st, 2021. Our Government will continue to ensure the safety of Canadians against #COVID19 and base our decisions on the best public health advice available.
