The Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre roof renovation project is set to get underway next week.
On July 21, crews will begin the replacement of 40,000 square feet of roofing, as well as upgrade the insulation and install new roof membranes.
The arena is also home to the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, and Chief Executive Officer Sarah Cowley says she is excited about the project.
“Both the city and the YMCA have been talking about this for some time and we are all very pleased that this project is moving forward now for our centre,” says Cowley.
This $850,000 project comes after city council reviewed plans to reconstruct the roof in May.
The repair project will address ongoing leaking issues.
“It was felt that now is the time to do the rehabilitation so we could bring everything up to new grade and make sure this is was a roof surface that was going to last for the next 20 plus years of the facility,” says Cowley.
She says the restoration will be conducted over the summer with little interruptions to facility users.
