Chatsworth firefighters were kept busy Wednesday afternoon as they were called to a pair of separate blazes.
Township of Chatsworth Fire Chief Mike Givens says they responded to the first structure fire around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday at an older farm house on Holland-Sydenham Townline.
The Inter-Township Fire Department was also called to the scene to assist.
Givens says there were four people inside the residence who managed to escape safely before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters were met at the scene with heavy grey smoke billowing out from the eaves of the structure, Givens says.
He says crews managed to contain it, but the house suffered fairly extensive damage on the second floor as the fire got into the walls and ceiling.
No cause has been determined yet, but the blaze is not considered suspicious.
Following that occurrence, Givens says Chatsworth firefighters were dispatched directly to another scene on Chatsworth Road 24 around 4:30 p.m.
Grey Highlands firefighters were called in to assist with a tanker.
According to Givens, the property owner arrived at his house and could hear smoke alarms when he got out of his car. He opened the front door and was met with a large puff of smoke, and immediately retreated from the house and contacted the fire department.
Givens says firefighters managed to contain the blaze to a room and hallway, but the house suffered extensive smoke and heat damage throughout.
The cause in the second blaze is also yet to be determined, but is not considered suspicious.
No one was injured in the fires.
