There were no injuries in a fire inside the Coach Inn in downtown Owen Sound over the weekend.
City firefighters were called to report of a fire on the third floor of the 2nd Avenue East building around 1:45 a.m. early Saturday morning.
“The initial responding crew were met by heavy smoke conditions. They stretched a hose line to the third floor and quickly located the unit and extinguished the mattress fire. Crews then ventilated the building and checked the other units for extension,” a release from the Owen Sound Fire Department says.
According to the fire department, “smoking materials” caused the fire.
The resident inside the unit was able to escape safely, thanks to a working smoke alarm.
