The Flint Firebirds laid another beatdown on the Owen Sound Attack.
Nathan Aspinall and Darian Anderson led the way with three points each, as 14 Firebirds found the scoresheet in a 10-0 rout of the Owen Sound Attack in Game 3 of the Ontario Hockey League Western Conference quarterfinal Monday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Flint now leads the best of seven 3-0. The Attack will face elimination in Game 4 Wednesday.
It was all at even strength for the Firebirds in this one. 3-0 after one. 7-0 after two. Flint popped three more in the the third.
Anderson and Aspinall each had a pair of goals. Jimmy Lombardi, Chris Thibodeau, Alex Kostov, Brady Smith, Ryland Cunningham and Iggy Pazii also scored.
Trenten Bennett started Game 3 for the Attack, but was pulled in the second period after the Firebirds scored four goals in 3:11 — to make it 7-0.
Owen Sound’s emergency recall, goaltender Dylan Durno, was thrust into the net and made his OHL debut. Durno was an eighth round pick of the Attack in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. He was called up by the team as Matthew Koprowski couldn’t dress for Game 3 due to illness.
Durno made 10 saves on 13 shots in relief.
Flint has now outscored the Attack 29-2 through three games in this series.
Mason Vaccari posted a 32 save shutout in the win, while Bennett allowed seven goals on 17 shots taking the loss. Owen Sound outshot Flint 32-30 while going 0 for 4 on the power play; the Firebirds finished 0 for 3.
Game 4 goes Wednesday night at the Bayshore. It’s underway at 7 p.m. A loss and the Attack will be swept out of the OHL playoff for the fourth straight season.
