We are happy to announce that our Country 93 Superdog for the month of September is Bruce!
Here’s what Bruce’s owner Alec had to say, “Bruce is a Rottweiler puppy born on June 6. He came home to his forever family on August 12, and just two days later, our lives were turned upside down. On August 14, a freak accident happened when Bruce choked on a piece of puppy kibble. He stopped breathing for a period of time and was rushed to the Rockford Veterinary Clinic, where he was immediately taken back and placed on oxygen. X-rays and bloodwork were done, and we learned that Bruce had developed flash pulmonary edema, a life-threatening condition. The veterinary team stabilized him as much as they could, but Bruce needed emergency care in Collingwood. That meant making an approximately one-hour drive without oxygen. To say that drive was terrifying is an understatement. Bruce was breathing incredibly fast, and there were moments when he became so weak that he had to be aroused just to keep going. We didn’t know if our brand-new puppy was going to survive the trip. When we arrived, Bruce was rushed inside. We were told that he was in very serious condition, and we had to establish his CPR status immediately. Nobody could tell us whether he was going to make it. Bruce had only been part of the family for two days, but somehow, in those two days, he had already become incredibly loved. So despite the uncertainty, we did everything we could to give him a chance. And Bruce fought. For two days, this tiny Rottweiler puppy fought for his life. And he won. Bruce was finally able to come home and has continued to recover beautifully. Today, he’s growing into a spunky, energetic, and sometimes hilariously lazy little boy. He loves his toys, takes his naps very seriously, and is endlessly curious about the world around him. He’s still working on learning all his tricks, but he’s already mastered the most impressive one of all: how to fight when the odds are against you. Bruce may not be the most highly trained Super Dog yet, but I think he deserves to be nominated for something much bigger. At only a few months old, Bruce stared death in the face, fought with everything he had, and came out the other side even stronger. That’s our Super Dog. ❤️🐾”
Well said – we’re so happy he pulled through! Bruce has won two days of doggy daycare courtesy of Howler’s Dog Sports!
Here he is in all his glory:
