Luke Charbonneau has been re-elected as the mayor of Saugeen Shores.
Charbonneau was first elected to municipal council in 2006, and also served as Deputy Mayor before taking over as Mayor.
He’s also served around the Bruce County council table, including as Deputy Warden and Warden.
During a call on the 2026 Municipal Election Coverage on 89.3 CFOS, Charbonneau shared his plans for the new council term.
“Well, we have a 10-year plan for our municipality and it’s all about executing that plan. We have a very pivotal four years coming up. We’ve got Bruce C on the horizon. We have to be ready for that. We have to win it, so we’re going be working hard to get the municipality in a good position to prepare for that growth, to continue to grow well, and continue to work with our partners across the region.”
That 10-year operating and capital plan focuses on maintaining municipal assets and replacing them before they fail, in order to prevent cost emergencies.
He said that by maintaining what the municipality already has, it helps to better plan for new, additional infrastructure.
His look ahead to a new term as mayor builds off previous work the municipality has done over the past four years.
In his Candidate Q+A with Bayshore News, he said that he believed that Saugeen Shores is entering one of the most consequential periods in its history.
In his response, he said, “In recent years, we have completed significant projects like the Lamont Sports Park and the Pryde Aquatics and Wellness Centre. We have also developed a detailed, ten-year plan for the town’s infrastructure, services and future growth.”
Charbonneau had previously said that there is an existing plan for increasing the supply of housing across the affordability spectrum, particularly with a plan to build as many as 200 affordable homes during the new term of council.
He shared that he wanted council and the municipality to continue its work with its community partners, and its municipal partners within Bruce County to continue on the path of prosperity and sustainable development.
“This is the best place in the world to live and we have a very strong region. Saugeen Shores strives to be a good partner and a leader in the region and we’re going to work on building a strong economy and a strong community, not only for our community but for everybody across the clean energy frontier.”
The Municipality of Saugeen Shores had 49.3 % voter turnout. Unofficial election results are here.
