Harrison Park will be full of colourful little monsters on Saturday for Owen Sound’s Pokemon Go Community day.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., participants can hunt for Pokemon throughout the park.
Pokémon Go is an augmented reality mobile game that uses your phone or device’s GPS to locate Pokemon (pocket monsters). Using augmented reality on your device, the Pokemon will appear in front of you as if it’s there in your location. Then you ‘capture’ them and train them to battle other virtual creatures. Pokemon is founded by Nintendo and published by Niantic.
The Pokemon Go Community Day is being put on by The United Way of Bruce Grey, Owen Sound Police and Bruce Power.
United Way of Bruce Grey Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says, “There is a significantly large group of players in the region and Owen Sound’s Harrison Park has the capacity to provide players with a significant Community Day experience,” she adds, “I’ve been playing for almost 5 years and Pokémon Go kept me outside and gave me a welcome break during the pandemic.”
Police will be on hand with information and giveaways as well.
Bruce Power is supporting the event as part of their winter sponsorship effort. Over $2,000 in prizes, cookies and other opportunities for fun are part of the event.
The United Way asks everyone to follow Public Health regulations while playing Pokémon Go. Masks are required when interacting with United Way staff and 0912volunteers even outside at the event.
