Grey Bruce Health Services will be permitting patients to have visitors at its hospitals starting on Wednesday.
The hospital organization says in a release it has updated its Family Presence policy and will allow inpatients to have one person visit in hospital as of June 2.
Since the introduction of the provincewide stay-at-home order in early April, visitors had been restricted at all Grey Bruce Health Services hospitals – except in special circumstances.
Under the policy change, visitors are required to call the nursing station ahead of attending as schedules may change. GBHS advises visitors must be identified by the patient upon admission.
Visiting times at the Owen Sound, Wiarton, Lion’s Head and Southampton hospitals are daily from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
For the GBHS hospitals in Markdale and Meaford, the hours are between 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily.
“Prior to the pandemic, there were no set visiting hours, and visitors were permitted to come at any time based on the patients’ wishes,” a statement from the hospital organization explains. “GBHS looks forward to returning to that approach when it is safe to do so.”
A number of precautions are in place to ensure that the re-introduction of visits is done safely.
