Almost $160,000 is being distributed to 52 local charities and non-profits in support of projects geared to address community wellbeing across the region.
Announced by Community Foundation Grey Bruce, the projects the funds will be assisting with will be helping the transition to online projects as various groups adapt to serving the community during the pandemic.
Projects ranging on mental health, family and child support, environment preservation and restoration, and activities like arts, culture, sports, education, environment, and wellness.
“During these difficult times, it is reassuring to see the creativity and resilience in grant applications from local charities and non-profits that directly address community wellbeing and support for vulnerable populations during the pandemic,” says Executive Director of the Foundation Stuart Reid.
Some projects included in the allocation of funds includes:
-Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce Mental Health and Addiction Services, $6,191 to support projects like offering employment to individuals with serious mental health issues to grow produce
-Gitche Namewikwedong Reconciliation Project, $2,500 celebration to mark arrival and installation of Nookomis Name Kwe Sculpture at Kelso Park
-REACH Centre Grey Bruce, $3,051 to teach staff sign language
-Owen Sound Little Theatre/The Roxy Theatre, $3,000 for a safe reopening and contactless ticketing project in purchasing electronic ticket scanners
-United Way of Bruce Grey, $14,000 for various projects like providing low income households with food boxes
Further details about community grant projects can be found on the foundation’s website as applications for the fall community grant are open, and will close on Sept. 15.
