The CT scanner project at the Kincardine hospital continues to advance, with a targeted goal of having the scanner operational in 2022.
A release from South Bruce Grey Health Centre says construction is expected to begin in the fall on the 2,000 square foot addition south of the main entrance.
It will include a private CT suite, technologist area, patient prep room, wait space, change room, washroom and stretcher holding area.
The hospital says the Siemens Edge Plus CT is expected to arrive on site in early 2022.
Hospital President and CEO Michael Barrett says in a statement, “The project is moving along well,” adding, “Getting the scanner in place and operational as quickly as possible is our goal, to meet the health care needs of the Kincardine community. The sooner we get the CT installed, the sooner that patients from the Kincardine community will no longer have to travel to another community to access CT services.”
The Ministry of Health has approved Stage 1 and 2 of the five-stage project submission for the CT suite and has accelerated the review process and advanced the project to a combined Stage 3 and 4 submission, which includes a Sketch Plan Report and Working Drawings and Specifications.
Funding for the project is being raised by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, and includes a $1 million contribution from Bruce Power, and the Government of Ontario. Foundation President Becky Fair says, “Having a state-of-the-art CT Scanner will ensure we are able to keep pace with the increasing health care demands of our fast-growing community.”
Earlier this year, the hospital’s main entrance was reconstructed to accommodate the new addition for the CT scanner suite.
This project began in January and the hospital says it was completed on time and on budget in May.
